Virginia “Ginny” Martha (McChesney) Bowser

Kind & Giving -

Virginia “Ginny” Martha (McChesney) Bowser, age 90, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Butler, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Monday, April 4, 2022.  Virginia was born on Friday, February 26, 1932, in Pittsburgh to the late Aloysius McChesney and Virginia Martha (Walker) Van Horn.  In addition to her parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her sister, Anna Scharpf; and her beloved canine companion, Cinnamon.

After residing in Butler for more than 45 years, Virginia decided to come to Mechanicsburg to be near her daughter, Kassie Gall and husband, Tim, as well as her two grandchildren: Olivia and Evan along with his wife, Kaylin; and her great-grandson, Ryker, with whom she shared a special bond as he always kept her supplied with chocolate and cookies.

She is also survived by her children: Ted, Mike, Jeff, and Corinne; her grandchildren: Mike, Jr., Justin, Katie, Jeffrey, and Jeremiah; her three additional great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her Jack Russell terrier mix, Cowboy.

Virginia graduated from Blawnox High School as part of the class of 1951.  She retired from Montgomery Ward’s Tire Department in Butler, after 20 years of service working in sales.  Virginia was very proud that she was the first female tire salesperson in Montgomery Ward’s history.  She was a member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler for nearly 30 years.  Virginia enjoyed playing cards and bowling with The Jolly Girls.  She was also a member of the Messiah Mechanicsburg Senior Center and various card clubs.  There was never a day in Virginia’s life where she didn’t have to work hard.  As a breast cancer survivor, Virginia was a strong woman.  She will be remembered for being resilient, caring, and generous; she helped anyone who asked and gave even when she had to do without.

Virginia’s family will be remembering her life privately.  Interment in Butler County Memorial Park will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone with Homeland at Home Hospice, particularly her nurse, Helen Haddick and nurse’s aide, Amanda Thorson, who so lovingly cared for Virginia during her illness.
