Virginia “Ginny” Ruth (Shidler) Wert

Virginia “Ginny” Ruth (Shidler) Wert, age 69, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Kettering, OH and Culver, IN, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020.  Ginny was born on Tuesday, April 18, 1950 in Winamac, IN to the late Orville Raymond Shidler and Catherine Elizabeth (DePoy) Shidler.  Ginny was the widow of F. Douglas “Doug” Wert, whom she married on December 28, 1990, and who died on December 9, 2015.  In addition to her parents and husband, Ginny is preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Melissa Adams-Budde.

Ginny’s survivors include her four sons: William “Bill” Raymond Budde, III and his wife, Karen, of Dublin, OH, Mikel “Mike” Edward Budde and his wife, Kimberly, of Sykesville, MD, Scot Alan Budde of West Grove, PA, Robert “Rob” David Budde and his wife, Christina, of Crofton, MD; her eight grandchildren: Alexander, Eli, Erin, Klete, Kate, Brody, Genevieve, Juliette; her companion, Michael Gelinas of Boiling Springs; her brother, Brian Shidler and his wife, Norva, of Culver, IN; her four sisters: Barbara Krathwohl and her husband, Fred, of Port Charlotte, FL, Connie Watwood and her husband, Brad, of Culver, IN, Debra Smith and her husband, David, of Culver, IN, Denise Edmonds and her husband, Rick, of Defiance, OH; and many nieces and nephews.

Ginny graduated from Culver Community High School as part of the class of 1968 and from Purdue University in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.  She worked as an elementary school teacher in Michigan and later as a nursery school teacher in Kettering, OH and Mechanicsburg.  Ginny enjoyed square dancing as a member of the Flirts and Skirts Square Dance Club in Mechanicsburg and going on camping trips with Michael.  She loved making colorful quilts and intricate cross stitching.

All are welcome to join Ginny’s family for a time of gathering and refreshments on Saturday, February 8, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. until time of remembrance at 4:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating.  Cremation was private.

Contributions in celebration of Ginny’s life can be made to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, 500 University Drive, Hershey, PA 17033 or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - Central PA Chapter, 2405 Park Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
